Agilient helped an ASX-listed Australian technology company build an integrated business continuity program and management system and test it with its leadership team.

THE CHALLENGE

An ASX-listed Australian technology company had built a strong global position on its own software and intellectual property. Its growth had outpaced its resilience arrangements. There was no structured business continuity management system covering critical operations such as software development, supply chain and customer support, and the leadership team had no agreed framework for responding to a serious disruption. The company also operated in a threat environment where technology businesses are frequent targets of cyber attack. It needed a resilience framework built from the ground up that was practical enough for a fast-moving organisation and credible to its board.

OUR APPROACH

Agilient delivered the program in three phases. It began with a Business Impact Analysis, guided by ISO 22301:2019, to identify critical business functions, recovery time objectives and resource dependencies. A risk assessment in line with AS ISO 31000:2018 identified and evaluated threats to continuity, with attention to the risks faced by companies holding valuable intellectual property. From these findings Agilient developed a business continuity management framework and policy, then a suite of plans: a Crisis Management Plan to guide executive decisions, a Business Continuity Plan setting out continuity strategies for critical functions, and an IT Disaster Recovery Plan for technology restoration. The leadership team then received dedicated training, and the program concluded with a scenario-based desktop exercise to test the new plans in a controlled setting.

THE OUTCOME

The company now has an integrated business continuity management system and a leadership team that has practised using it.
