Embedded operational security management, a regional campus security risk assessment and policy review support gave a state vocational education provider practical site treatments and stronger in-house security capability.
THE CHALLENGE
A state vocational education provider operates a network of campuses, each with its own mix of facilities, users and community context. It wanted to strengthen its internal security and risk capability and to integrate security planning into its broader facilities and operational environment. The provider needed experienced support to lead security and business resilience functions while it built a permanent in-house security team. At one regional campus, security had not been reviewed in depth. There was no CCTV, lighting in key access and transit areas was inadequate, perimeter fencing was insecure, and alarm zoning shared with an adjacent facility was ineffective. The provider wanted a clear, practical understanding of these vulnerabilities and how to treat them.
OUR APPROACH
Agilient provided embedded security and risk management support, working in an operational security management capacity within the provider’s facilities management function. In this role, Agilient advised senior stakeholders on business resilience and security, contributed to the development of business resilience and security plans, facilitated risk assessments and supported the design of security frameworks. It also assisted with the recruitment and mentoring of permanent security personnel. A significant component was an in-depth security risk assessment of the regional campus. Consultants reviewed security infrastructure and environmental design, engaged with campus staff, and identified vulnerabilities across the physical and procedural security landscape. Findings were framed within the site’s crime exposure, operational constraints and community context. Agilient also reviewed security policies and procedures so that security measures aligned with the provider’s risk appetite and recognised good practice.
THE OUTCOME
The provider gained practical, site-specific treatments and a stronger internal capability to anticipate, respond to and recover from security threats.
