A review of how vehicles and pedestrians interact across a multi-campus Australian university produced marked-up campus maps, a report for each campus and a quote-ready schedule of vehicular barriers and other controls.
THE CHALLENGE
A multi-campus Australian university manages open environments where vehicles and pedestrians share the same spaces. It had a management system in place for vehicle and pedestrian interactions and wanted an independent review of how well that system addressed risk at each campus. The university needed to know where the areas of risk were, which controls were needed, and where vehicular barriers and other measures would be best placed. It also wanted the findings in a form it could use directly to seek quotations for the recommended security equipment, and it wanted senior management briefed on the results.
OUR APPROACH
Agilient reviewed the university’s vehicle-pedestrian interaction management system at each of its campuses to identify areas of risk and the controls needed to address them. For every campus, consultants marked up campus maps to show the areas of risk and the preferred locations for vehicular barriers and other suggested controls. Each campus then received its own security review report, cross-referenced to the marked-up maps, with commentary on the controls required. The reports included a schedule of the number and type of controls recommended, set out in a format the university could use to seek quotations. Agilient then closed the engagement by presenting a debrief to senior management on the findings of the review.
THE OUTCOME
The university received a clear, campus-by-campus picture of vehicle and pedestrian risk and a practical basis for procurement.
