An independent pharmaceutical security threat and risk assessment gave a manufacturer a consistent view of its security posture across several sites and a prioritised plan for improvement.
THE CHALLENGE
A pharmaceutical manufacturer and distributor operates several Australian facilities that handle high-value products subject to strict regulatory and security controls. Each site had developed its own mix of physical, technical and procedural measures over time. Management wanted an independent, evidence-based view of how well those controls were working together, and whether any gaps exposed the sites to theft, unauthorised access or disruption to supply. The review needed to go beyond routine checks, apply one method across every facility, and produce findings that leadership could compare site by site and act on as a single program.
OUR APPROACH
Agilient began with planning and kick-off meetings to confirm objectives, scope and site contacts. Consultants then inspected each facility using a consistent method based on AS ISO 31000:2018. Physical measures such as perimeter fencing, access control and protective lighting were assessed on site. Technical systems, including CCTV and intruder alarms, were examined for coverage, integration and monitoring, with alarm arrangements considered against the AS 2201 series. Operational procedures for staff and contractors, access management and incident response were reviewed alongside the physical controls. At each facility the team spoke with local personnel to understand workflows and the particular pressures of manufacturing and distribution environments. Findings were analysed together and benchmarked against good practice for pharmaceutical operations, so that differences between sites were visible and explained.
THE OUTCOME
The manufacturer received a consolidated assessment and a practical roadmap for security investment.
