AGM Security Planning Lets Directors and Executives Meet Shareholders Safely

Empty boardroom set for a board meeting

For a large Australian company, Agilient provides AGM security planning for annual general meetings and other significant events, so the board and executive team can face shareholders and the public safely.

THE CHALLENGE

An annual general meeting brings a company’s chair, directors, chief executive and senior leaders into one room at a published time and place. For a company whose operations attract strong community and activist interest, that creates a predictable target for protesters, issue-motivated groups and aggrieved individuals. Disruption is the most likely outcome, but the company also had to plan for the safety of key people, staff and shareholders if a protest escalated. It needed independent advice it could rely on, and someone to make sure venue security, event staff and protective services worked as one.

OUR APPROACH

Agilient treats each AGM as a protection operation. An event security risk assessment establishes the likely threat for the meeting, including online monitoring of planned protest activity in the lead-up, and assesses the venue for access points, separation of key people from the public, holding areas and routes in and out. Arrival, holding and departure arrangements are planned for the chair, directors and executives, and contingency plans cover disruption inside the meeting, protest outside and the need to move key people quickly.

Agilient coordinates the venue’s security, the event organisers and any third-party security or protection providers, so every party works to the same plan, with police liaison where the threat warrants it. Because Agilient is independent of those providers, the company gets advice on the level of security it actually needs rather than the level a provider would prefer to sell.

THE OUTCOME

The company holds its AGMs and major events with a clear, proportionate security plan and one independent adviser coordinating it.

  • An event security risk assessment and event security plan for each meeting
  • Venue assessments, movement and holding arrangements for directors and executives, and contingency plans
  • Coordinated venue security and third-party providers working to a single plan
  • Continuity with the protection arrangements for individual executives, so event security and personal security work together
