Bill has over twenty-five years’ experience in security risk and operations, both with the Australian Government and in the private sector. In 2000, Bill managed liaison between the Sydney Olympic Intelligence Centre and the Sydney Operations office in the lead up to, and during the Olympic Games. Before leaving the government, Bill was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Meritorious Service.
Bill was recruited to Qantas as the International Security Risk Manager where he was responsible for advising the Qantas Group on security threat and risks to its global operations, including its flying businesses, terminal operations and commercial and corporate operations. As an executive with the Security Operations team, Bill recommended and implemented appropriate mitigation measures for the businesses, their facilities and personnel.
During his time with Qantas, Bill travelled extensively assessing physical security at airports, hotels and offices, as well as assessing at first hand the security environment in high-risk ports. Bill’s time with Qantas covered a period of heightened tension, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as bombings in Indonesia, India and Europe.
During that time, Bill was an active member of ASIS International’s Washington based Global Terrorism, Political Instability and International Crime Council for four years. Membership of the council was by invitation and Bill received commendations from the council when he stepped down from the position.
Since leaving Qantas, Bill has provided consulting services to airlines, airports, air cargo companies, corporations and governments. He has undertaken projects for the Singaporean, Indonesian, Bhutanian and Australian governments and provided operational security, training and policy advice to international airlines, air cargo companies and regional airports.
Recently Bill has developed a threat assessment for a part of Indonesia’s critical national infrastructure, worked on a major security review of Australian Border Force operations, assessed the crowded space threats and risk to Transport Canberra’s operations and conducted a comprehensive security review of the ACT government’s Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate.
