A Jetstar flight had to be diverted after a mid-air brawl broke out 24 minutes into the flight, highlighting the importance of flight security.
Video taken inside the plane flying from Melbourne to Brisbane shows the moment punches were thrown, before passengers tried to pull two feuding men apart.
The pilot then diverted the flight back to Melbourne, where the two men involved were removed from the plane by Australian Federal Police.
Flight security situations like this reinforce the need for organisations to undertake a thorough security threat and risk assessment. Particularly those in high-risk environments such as in the air, where police and security officers are not present. Designing appropriate and effective security strategies, policies and systems, including training, can help organisations to be prepared, and present practical solutions to high-risk situations.
Jetstar’s own Conditions of Carriage policy focuses on what items are restricted on board, and ensuring passengers are well enough to fly, rather than reiterating that aggressive and violent passengers will be removed from flights.
