If you are going away over the summer holidays, it’s important to ensure your home security is top notch. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make sure your house still looks lived in while you’re away. No one wants a Home Alone situation, so keep these tips in mind before you set off on your holidays.
Let Your Neighbours Know
Asking a neighbour or family/friend who live nearby to collect your mail while you’re away, take your bins out and generally keep an eye on things is a great idea. They can look out for any suspicious activity or visitors, and alert you accordingly.
Automate Your Lighting
To enhance your home security, create a holiday schedule to turn different lights on in the house during the evenings. This creates the impression that people are at home and moving around the house. Technology has come a long way, and light automation devices can be installed by an electrician, or you can DIY with Wi-Fi enabled options that you can even turn on and off remotely.
Install a CCTV or Alarm System
Outdoor home security cameras help you to protect your home, family and valuables every day, not just when you’re away on holidays.
CCTV cameras are a great way to deter unwelcome intruders by making your home a more difficult target. Even if you’re away on an overseas holiday, you can monitor the safety of your home through a mobile app. Login on your phone or computer to view a real-time livestream of your property, or you can receive mobile alerts whenever your CCTV camera is triggered or detects something out of the ordinary.
Store Valuables In A Safe
If you have expensive items such as jewelry or cash in your home, it may be worth investing in a safe. That way even if someone was to break in, you would know that your most valuable items will still be safe. You can also store important documents such as passports or birth certificates, keeping them safe from both theft and other disasters such as fire or flood.
Don’t Overshare on Social Media
Consider not posting about the latest expensive toy or gadget you’ve recently bought, and then letting everyone know you’re going away. Keep your social media accounts private, so only your close friends and family anyone can access them and see what you’re doing.
If you take these ideas into consideration you’ll have a safe, happy and relaxed break away. And most importantly, enjoy your holidays!
