Over the past few weeks, Russia has launched cyber-attacks as part of their attack on Ukraine, heavily impacting the country’s ability to operate effectively. In relation to these Russian-linked cyber-attacks, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) have warned Australian organisations that overseas malicious activity may have local ramifications.
Australian society has become reliant on technology and digital ways of operating, therefore agencies must prioritise different measures to secure their data and critical infrastructure against threat actors.
Ensure Your Organisation is Secure
The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) is encouraging Australian organisations to immediately implement an enhanced cyber security position, advising that they should act immediately in order to ensure their cyber security resilience is strong, in regards to the intensified threats.
Australian organisations could be impacted by malicious cyber activity due to the historical patterns of the cyber-attacks against Ukraine, leading to international consequences.
According to Eric Milam, VP of research and intelligence at BlackBerry, “As government agencies collect and share more digital information, they must develop a comprehensive, integrated approach to security to protect highly confidential data and communication. This can be done through AI-based threat prevention, enabling a zero-trust security environment which continuously validates that trust at every event or transaction to authenticate users.”
According to cyber security expert and global CEO of Vectra AI, Hitesh Sheth, “the war we see on TV is only a fraction of the conflict”.
The ACSC is not aware of any current threats on Australian organisations, however they are pushing for the implementation of an enhanced cyber security posture, and an increase in monitoring for threats, to help reduce impacts on Australian organisations.
